The two professorships and two affiliated professorships are the second round of appointments following the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) announcing eight professorship openings in November 2023. In August this year, GEUS announced the appointment of seven new professors. This means that GEUS can now celebrate the appointments of a total of nine new professors and two affiliated professors.

The new professors are:

  • Birgitte Hansen, Professor of water quality assessment, Department of Geochemistry, joins as of 1st December 2024.
  • Meththika Vithanage, Professor of water quality assessment, Department of Geochemistry, joins in 2025.

The new affiliated professors are:

  • Katrine Juul Andresen, Affiliated Professor, Department of Near-Surface Land and Marine Geology. The appointment period is 1st November 2024 to 31st October 2028.
  • Christine Thomas, Affiliated Professor, Department of Geophysics and Sedimentary Basins. The appointment period is 1st November 2024 to 31st October 2027.

“We are extremely proud to announce that four additional major capacities will contribute to GEUS’ important work on some of the great challenges of our time,” says Flemming Larsen, Managing Director at GEUS.

The nine professors and two affiliated professors will be presented at a joint Professor Symposium at Øster Voldgade 10 in the Ceremonial Hall on 27th November from 1 to 3 p.m. The Professor Symposium is open to everyone.
