Marine seismic studies

Marine seismic data acquisition is the tool of choice to obtain detailed images of subsurface structure including physical properties in offshore areas. Using appropriate combinations of available seismic sources and receivers, images from the shallow near surface structure down to the uppermost mantle can be derived. Marine studies can also help to bridge narrow waterways in land acquisitions, such as lakes or towards islands. In addition, transition zone seismic in the near-shore area can link on- and offshore surveys.

We offer:

  • Survey design
  • Reflection seismic acquisition – 2D
  • Wide-angle reflection/refraction seismic studies using ocean bottom seismometers (2D/3D)
  • Sonobuoy recording
  • Data processing
  • Velocity modelling (forward/inverse/tomography/2D/3D)
  • Seismic and geological interpretation
  • Passive Acoustic Monitoring (marine mammal observation)
  • Rental and technical support of marine seismic equipment

Thomas Funck is a marine geophysics with focus on active source seismic studies covering both seismic reflection acquisitions and wide-angle reflection/refraction seismic experiments using ocean bottom seismometers (OBS). Thomas holds strong expertise in acquiring data in the ice-infested waters of the Arctic Ocean and in linking land and marine surveys, as well as tomographic modelling and data interpretation.
