7 th Mineral Resource Assessment Workshop: Assessment of the Ti-V potential in Greenland

Published 20-11-2015

A workshop on assessment of the magmatic Ti-V potential in Greenland will be held at Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) from 25 - 27 November 2015.

The workshop is organized by GEUS and the Ministry of Mineral Resources in Greenland (MMR).

The 'Mineral Resource Assessment Workshop' project was initiated in 2009 as part of the Global Mineral Resource Assessment Program (GMRAP) carried out by the USGS. Compiled information on known deposits and examinations of different geological provinces are used to assess the presence of undiscovered deposits in the top 1 km of the Earth's crust. A similar process will be applied during this year's workshop.

At GEUS, annual workshops have been held for the assessment of the copper, rare-earth element, zinc, nickel, tungsten and gold potential in Greenland, in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014 respectively.

The workshop will make use of a standardized process in which an expert panel, consisting of exploration, consultant and research geologists with knowledge on Ti-V mineralisation processes or Greenland geology discusses and assesses the probability of undiscovered Ti-V deposits within predefined areas.

Two international magmatic Ti-V deposit experts will attend, among others to give an overview of the different deposit and genetic models. In addition, different known occurrences in Greenland and the geology and settings of the prospective areas ('tracts') will be presented at the workshop.

35 people are registered for the workshop and due to limited space it is not possible to register more people.

The first day is however open to all with an interest in economic geology.
